Work-streams

The starting point for the FlexNet research programme is to examine the factors that will dictate the future form of the network and the degree of flexibility required: we name this Shape and Size of the Network . This then drives the research that looks at how flexibility is delivered. Flexibility can be achieved through or can be constrained by what people as Citizens, Customers and Loads are prepared to engage in or accept. Most of the delivery of network flexibility will come from Smart, Flexible Controls but also from secondary plant such as Power System Electronics. To achieve the flexibility in an economically efficient way requires the study of Markets and Investment.

FlexNet is not only about the focus on flexibility; it is also about a deeper engagement with stakeholders in progressing the research ideas toward deployment. We express that through the Validation and Showcase work-stream.
