Dr. Charlotte Ramsay

I joined FutureNet as a Ph.D student in 2003 and was jointly supervised in both the Centre for Environmental Policy and the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Imperial. Prior to this, I worked for 3 years as a researcher in the field of energy efficiency policy and regulation after completing my MSc in Environmental Technology (with Energy Policy) at Imperial in 2000. Initially, I worked with the FutureNet Demand Side Participation work-stream on system integration of small scale generation and demand using the Virtual Power Plant concept. Since January 2007 I have been working at Imperial as a Research Associate on a number of projects in related areas. I gained my PhD in September 2007 and have been continuing my work on transmission access and development of market based arrangements for integration of renewables and distributed energy resources through the new FlexNet consortium (Markets and Investment work-steam). I have recently accepted a job at AREVA T&D based jointly in Massy (France) and Farnham (UK), where I will be working on new business development for their European Market Management Systems Group.

Working as part of the FutureNet consortium made a considerable difference to my PhD research experience. The consortium provided a unique opportunity to interact and gain feedback from a wide range of academics, fellow researchers and industrialists which made a vital and positive contribution to the relevance of my research and the scope of my opportunities beyond the PhD.
